What is Rooted Living?

Rooted Living is an eco-friendly granola brand founded by Rachel Domb with the goal of inspiring snacking with intent.

The organic granola brand emphasizes sustainable and health-conscious food choices, focusing on high-quality, natural ingredients with minimal processing, catering to consumers who value both environmental impact and nutrition.

INITIAL PHASE

I joined Scout Studio, a student-led design organization that works closely with real-world clients to create impactful work. In small, agile teams, we work to develop brands and products specific to our client’s needs.

Through a series of collaborative brand exercises, we delved into Rooted Living's voice, message, and mission. Once we envisioned the brand's future direction, our focus shifted to translating that vision into impactful design.

DESIGN STRATEGY

We transitioned into strategizing, starting with mood boards to refine our visual approach. Building on this foundation, we formally developed the design strategy, which became the backbone of our work moving forward. Key updates to the existing guidelines included refreshing the color palette and introducing the Mabry Pro typeface.

With our strategy finalized, we moved on to the centerpiece of our project: packaging design. We began with low-fidelity wireframes to determine the optimal layout and ensure we effectively highlighted the unique features of Rooted Living. Collaborating with Scout’s Photo Team, we developed a diverse range of visual assets for use in both packaging and web design. However, as we progressed, we realized our initial design wasn’t meeting all our objectives. This led us to pivot, adopting a completely new layout. The result was a striking, thoughtfully crafted design that captured the essence of what makes Rooted Living truly special.
